TEENS SING AT CHURCH March 30, 2008

What a great day at church.  It was great overall, but our teens sang in the morning service.  We do this once a month.  I believe it is a great way to get teens involved in the life of the church outside of the walls of the “youth ministry”.  We also have our teens practice puppets and drama once a month.  Music, puppets, and drama are great ways to promote service of the teens in the church and community.  The nice thing is you can do this with a small, medium, or large youth group.

Took my daughter out driving today.  Help!!!  What was I thinking?  She did good, this is only her second time practicing.  Momma was with us today and survived the parental milestone.  Meg did good when she remembered which pedal was the brake and which was the gas.  Just one piece of advise for those out there.  BEWARE!!!!!!!

I couldn’t sleep so I go up with Dottie, my wife and went into the office at 5:45AM.  It is amazing how much work you can get done that early in the morning.  I do have to admit though that I don’t wish to do that too often.  I forgot to mention earlier in the week that I hit another parent milestone this past Sunday.  The kids, Meg and JJ decided they did not want to dye Easter eggs this year.  I can’t believe we did not do them.  What else will we lose next?  Busy weekend coming up will keep you updated.  Thanks for checking in.  Be sure to leave your thoughts and comments.

UNPLEASANT SERVICE BRINGS PLEASANT RESULTS March 27, 2008

It can be hard at times promoting service projects to the teens in your youth group.  Sometimes if there is no direct benefit to the individual performing the service there is no desire to do the act.  Of course this goes against the idea of “service”.  Also, if the service project is not prestigious they don’t see the need to do it.  In II Kings 5 we read about Naaman.  He wanted to be cured of his skin disease but did not like what he had to do to receive the cure.  Now this was service to self, but the same principle applies, to see good things happen sometimes we need to do the “nasty” jobs.

My daughter participated in her first track meet today and did well.  She had good time in the 4×4 relay and the 800 meter run.  It was about a 3 hour meet and was cold, but it was worth it.  Great job, daughter!!!

Spent time with the kids this afternoon after school.  They both have me running every which way.  Both are playing sports and both need shoes and equipment for each sport so went out shopping for those.  Does this craziness end?  Oh well, parents do it out of love.

This past weekend our basketball program held its last game of the season.  This Saturday is the awards night.  It was a great season.  It is for K5-6th grade, but I have some of my teens working in it.  It is a great outreach to the community.  They also have soccer and flag football although we don’t hold those programs.  The organization is called Upward.  You can check them out at www.upward.org.

Did you see the report about the high school cheerleader who died from breast implant surgery?  She had a reaction to a surgery that she did not need.  We need to let our young people know that imperfections are OK.

STD’S – A SHOCKING STATISTIC March 24, 2008

A recent study stated that 1 in 4 teenage girls have an STD.  That means that if your youth ministry has at least 4 girls in it, then in theory one of them has an STD.  Let us not be naive to think that this cannot happen in the church.  We need to take a stand and promote sexual purity even in the church.  Don’t drop the ball and wind up contributing to the stats.
